Notebookism stems from our mutual love to create on paper, ‘The smell of smooth creamy paper sends our hearts aflutter. The delicate tinkling of nib against inkwell accelerates our pulse rate. We stare endlessly at the first blank page.‘ {flickr}

julie-arkell.jpgJulie Arkell is one of England’s best recognised contemporary folk artists working in papier-mâché and mixed media. It has been said that Julie “…cannot resist the rejected debris of everyday life”. She especially favours discarded toys for inspiration and printed textiles (book available via loop).

flea-market-style.jpgFlea Market Style” (a recent acquisition of mine),
I couldn’t recommend this book enough.
Emily Chalmers and Ali Hanan advocate a subtle mixing of styles, patterns, and colours, and emphasize the beauty of objects that have seen a bit of life. The book’s authors explain how to find fresh and unexpected uses of second-hand pieces and antiques, and reveal how to mix old and new with flair and panache.
now, if I just pack my bags and move into an Airstream *smile*

gluebook.jpgHi friends, sorry for the recent sporadic posting and lack of blog visits…
Some of you know that I have started a Graphic Design course, busy catching up on work and celebrating a birthday over the weekend.
As part of learning to think creatively and practicing the trade, an altered children’s book was created. This was a lot of fun, the pictures show several pages from the book (sorry for the poor quality of the shots, as it was difficult to capture the images over the glossy surfaces).
