The Kitchen Heart of The Home #02

designers-block2.jpgGuest Blogger: Di Overton – Let’s start with the decor. I have decided to wallpaper one wall with this fabulous vintage paper in stone and black and paint the wall above the worktop with blackboard paint for writing those all important messages on. Next the furniture. I have gone for vintage cabinets repainted in faded white. Finished with beautiful old wooden worktops, sanded with a compressed air sander to give them a really smooth finish. The worktops will be lit by vintage tin lamps as they flood light across the work area.
The sinks will be put into an old buffet sideboard by just sawing out holes to fit and all the plumbing will be hidden inside, the taps will be wall mounted. An old shelving unit will be used as a breakfastdesignersblock0.jpgbar and the shelves filled with wonderful old pots and containers. A big old farmhouse table with mismatched chairs painted cream and black for family and friends to gather around with a big crystal chandelier over it will add a real wow factor.
The cooker will be a Black Aga (of course) with a matching black, hard adonised kettle. A pantry will be created with big concrete shelves to keep produce cool, with a lovely old vintage sign outside. Old tins, pots and vintage glass will abound. Big old bowls full of fruit and salad vegetables will bring splashes of colour into this kitchen. Old plant pots with fresh herbs will sit on the windowsill, all hand painted with the name of their contents.
