Julie Arkell is one of England’s best recognised contemporary folk artists working in papier-mâché and mixed media. It has been said that Julie “…cannot resist the rejected debris of everyday life”. She especially favours discarded toys for inspiration and printed textiles (book available via loop).

I so much love her work. Found out too late she gave a workshop in the netherlands. Didn’t know about her book so thank you for that info.
Ohhhhhhh, I love Julie Arkell’s work.
Hey Babelfish, YOU ROCK! Thanks for hostessing the Cruststation project. It was an awesome experience!!!!
I really like how her work reminds you of things, feels like a childhood toy you had that was loved so deeply and never forgotten.
ooh, I bet these are even more amazing in person. I love that line-up of her creations in the pic in the second row.
Beautiful! I love the dolls.
i have this book and looooooooooove it. i especially love the photos of her studio. there is so much great stuff to look at.
Oh my! Her work is amazing. A delicate loved worn charm.
her dolls are lovely. I can’t find her work very often on the web, so it’s always nice when someone posts about her.
Julie Arkell’s work demonstrates so much imagination and skill, at the same time manifests a child-like approach. It is a combination of nostalgic art form with contemporary influence. Simply irresistible.
