Niki de Saint Phalle

niki-de-saint-phalle.jpgNiki de Saint Phalle (1930-2002) is best known for her oversized figures inspired by Antonio Gaudi on a visit to Barcelona in 1955. In 1979, she acquired some land in Garavicchio, Tuscany, about 100 km north-west of Rome along the coast, de Saint Phalle created a similar garden containing sculptures of the symbols found on Tarot cards. The garden took many years, and a considerable sum of money to complete. It opened in 1998, after more than 20 years of work.
